Dr. Ryan A. Sharp is currently Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Central Oklahoma, Principal Trumpet of the Edmond Chamber Orchestra, Artistic Director for the Frontier Brass Band and Soprano Cornetist with the international award-winning Fountain City Brass Band. Ryan enjoys an active performing schedule having played with the Kansas City Symphony, the Count Basie Orchestra, Brass Band of Battle Creek, Mahlerfest Orchestra, Bobby Watson and the 18th Vine Big Band, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Clark Terry, Brad Leeli, Jon Faddis, Jens Lindeman, Wycliff Gordon and many others, as well as numerous regional orchestras, big bands and salsa bands. While performing with the Fountain City Brass Band at the 2012 U.S. Open Brass Band Championships Ryan was named "Outstanding Cornetist" of the competition. In addition to live performances Ryan can be heard on many recordings including CD's by gospel artists such as Natalie Grant, Clint Brown, Myron Butler & Levi, Marcus Cole and Marvin Sapp's Grammy nominated album Be Exalted. He is also on the 2012 Mahlerfest recording of Symphony No.2 by Gustav Mahler, Principal Trumpet on the 2013 Mahlerfest recording of Symphony No. 4 and played Lead Trumpet on Bobby Watson's album Gate's Barbecue Suite written for the legendary Kansas City Barbecue establishment by the same name. From January 2003 to July 2005 Ryan was the lead trumpeter of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus performing across the United States and Mexico for over 15 million people. He has participated in concerts, festivals and masterclasses in Greece, Canada, England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Holland and Japan.
